Carbon-izer - North Loop West

North Loop West While much of this originally appeared on the old Loop 610 page and later Numbered Exits, the goal of this page is to cover the North Loop. This section starts at West 18th Street and counts down to Harvard Street (why that, no clue), with "North Loop" counting up. The entries here are a mix of new entries and what has appeared on Carbon-izer previously, but some are updated to make a new "Version 1.0". (In the future I may add North Loop East).

Entries not included here as they already have their own page on Numbered Exits or The Houston Files are 3000 North Loop West, 1526 North Loop West, 1521 North Loop West, 999 North Loop West, 700 North Loop West, 233 North Loop West, and 101 North Loop West. The article on 1521 North Loop West describes two defunct apartment complexes off of Ella that it replaced.

Hancock Whitney Bank / 2979 N. Loop West
Located at the corner of the northbound frontage road and West 18th Street, this was built as Whitney Bank in the early 2010s (new construction) before a merger changed the name about five years later.

Applebee's / 2959 N. Loop W.
This Applebee's was opened in 2007.

Heritage Place / 2504 North Loop West
The longer name of this hotel is Heritage Place Houston Brookhollow (looks like someone's trying to establish a chain), but this is the only location. It used to be Courtyard by Marriott (at least, it was Courtyard in 2007) until some point between October 2024 and February 2025.

Denny's / 2120 N. Loop West
This Denny's has been here since 1975.

1737 North Loop West
The nursing home that used to be here was originally opened in June 1967 as Golden Age Manor Nursing Home and Lexington Place Nursing and Rehabilitation in late 1991. After a double homicide in 2014 when a resident killed his elderly roommate and one other, the troubled nursing home (which also had other health and safety violations) renamed to Brookhollow Heights Transitional Care Center in early 2015. In 2021 it was shut down and torn down.

CVS / 1525 North Loop West
The CVS (1525 N. Loop West) replaced a Shell station in 2013 (the Shell station was not accessible from the adjacent parking lots). This was Mobil back in the 1960s and 1970s (before it was rebuilt the first time). As I mentioned in the Numbered Exits entry on the Lowe's, the new CVS connected to the Lowe's parking lot (which by this time had built a Murphy Express in the parking lot).

Brake and Tire Check / 1505 North Loop West
Brake Check, as it was known until 2026, opened this location in early 1974 (possibly December 1973). Pretty sure it still has the Brake Check signage.

Hungry Farmer Bar-B-Q / 1503 North Loop West
This opened in 2022 not long after the demise of the Thomas Bar-B-Q chain (which had been there since 1988).

Office Depot / 1401 N. Loop W.
This Office Depot is not particularly accessible or visible from Loop 610, but it's been here since 2009.

Chick-fil-A / 925 North Loop West
This Chick-fil-A was developed in the parking lot of Home Depot in 2014.

Whataburger / 905 North Loop West
This Whataburger was built in 1999 in an undeveloped pad site.

Pep Boys / 909 North Loop West
Pep Boys opened in 1995 but around the mid-2020s, Pep Boys ended its retail auto parts business and the retail portion became an AutoZone.

Shell / 801 North Loop West
The old Shell station at 801 North Loop West dated back to 1975 and was torn down in 2018, remaining vacant for almost a year before construction on a new Shell station began in 2019 and opened later that year, anchored by a "Checkout" convenience store (the old station had a car servicing garage). It was a Texaco prior to a Shell (gaining the brand around 2003 as with other Texaco stations).

Starbucks / 445 N. Loop W.
This Starbucks opened in April 2007. It replaced a Shell gas station and reuses the highway signage.

Exxon / 202 North Loop West
This used to be the site of an office building (it's twin was across the street at W. 30th) but by 1995 both were demolished. It was rebuilt as an "On the Run" Exxon gas station in 1997, but sold to Star Stop in the early 2010s (still an Exxon).

Ventura's Bridal Fashions / 102 North Loop West
Originally built c. 1980 as a warehouse for Ventura's Formal Wear (locally-based tuxedo shop, found in malls), this eventually became Ventura's Bridal Fashions (even as of 2011, "Ventura's Bridal Salon" and still advertising tuxedos on the sign).
