The 6000 Block is one of the only parts of the mall that isn't in a distinct "wing", it is an interior block of stores (no access to loading docks) that starts in the "inner rim" of the food court and circles around back. Today, all but one tenant remains that can actually be considered part of the food court still, the rest converted to non-food years ago.

Swensen's Ice Cream Factory
This second Swensen's (the other was in Culpepper Plaza) focused on ice cream. It lasted from 1982 to at least 1993.

Smoothies Ice Cream & Yogurt
This lasted from some point in the 1990s up until 2009 or 2010 (gut reaction says 2009), and also had ice cream, frozen yogurt, and smoothies, but also gyros. They had Blue Bell ice cream and was that served the ice cream shop-exclusive Superman, which has dark red, blue, and yellow-colored ice cream in it. It does have a distinct flavor but it's probably more than the artificial coloring. I last had in spring 2012 at A&M, as there was a coffee shop in the Commons basement that had it.

Nestlé Toll House by Chip
Basically more of the same except they have cookies and ice cream (not Blue Bell, but at least they can at least still sell it). They also supposedly have sandwiches as well, but I've never had 'em (or seen 'em, really).

Carlyle's Jewelers
Early 1980s directories list this one.

Gordon's Jewelers
1990s directory and 2004 directory lists this jewelry store here. After the fall of Wicks N Sticks, it took over the #6004 space. It has been here since at least 1989 but reports are it is is now closed as of January 2016.

#6006
Wicks 'N Sticks

Wicks 'N Sticks was a fairly popular candle store that was in a bunch of malls in the 1980s and 1990s. Not sure if any exist anymore (as a chain), but by 2004, it had expanded to the 6004 space before going out of business soon after.

Fossil
If I recall correctly, Fossil opened around 2006. It occupies #6006, though only its original footprint, 6004 became part of Gordon's by 2011.

Afterthoughts
Afterthoughts was here in the late 1990s, it was a store that became Icing by Claire's after it was sold by its old parent company, Woolworth.

Icing by Claire's

Claire's
At some point in the mid to late 2000s, Claire's and Icing by Claire's switched places.

Sweeney's
This jewelry store was here in '83 and also in a 1989 phone book.

Babbage's
Babbage's would eventually become GameStop, but in the mid-1990s, it was a very different store, selling video games but also computer titles and the systems themselves. My family's copy of Kid Pix Studio did indeed come from this spot.

GameStop
I think around 2002, GameStop took over the Babbage's location at POM. GameStop today is a fairly grimy place with unsupervised kids and kids that are a bit older but have a poor sense of hygiene. The GameStop down the street at Holleman and Texas Avenue is significantly cleaner and better—go there instead.

#21 / #6012
#18 through #20 are outside the food court in the "Foley's Wing".
Potatoes Etc. (1982-early 1990s)

Presumably baked potatoes. This existed up until the early 1990s or so. By the late 1990s the space was vacant.

Gymboree (2003?-present)
Gymboree has taken the space, expanded to #19. There is only a wall with the store name in the food court today.

#18 / #6014
Merle Norman Cosmetics
Merle Norman was a long runner, opening at the time of the mall (def. open by 1983) and running the next two decades plus. I believe Merle Norman closed in December 2010, as their ShopBrazos page shows the store (now outside the mall) being open as of January 2011.

Flip Flop Shops
FFS opened in November 2012 if my sources are correct.

#16 / 6016
Sugar Daddy's Fudge Factory (1982-1989?)
This was a charter tenant, which sold fudge (according to the full name in the 1983 phone book), so it definitely existed. It likely sold candy as well.

Mostly Yogurt (1989-1993?)
It also appears that this was vacant in 1998 (food no longer)

Sunglass Hut/Watch Station (?-present)
This was here in '03, but at some point, the "Watch Station" name was dropped, possibly as soon as a few years later.

Subway Sandwiches & Salads (1984-?)

Jumping back to the northeast side of the food court (according to the directory, at least), this was one of the first Subway restaurants in town, this was originally located here at the corner, with a menu not too unlike today (though cheaper, and offering carrots). I find it interesting that they mention salads as part of their headline. While Subway will make a decent salad for you still, please don't order one during a major rush, because it will mess up the flow of the line and take an employee out, making it slower for everyone and harder for the remaining employees. Eventually, this was absorbed into #16 (see Service Merchandise/Bealls wing).

The Wagon Wheel (1982-?)
This was a mall barbecue place. It was definitely gone by the early 1990s but probably replaced by something else food-related (see Unknowns). It was vacant toward the end of the 1990s, however, and would never be a food establishment again.

Hat World
All ballcaps, lining the wall. This would be here in 2003 but later became...

Lids
...which is basically the same thing with a name change. I'm not sure when the name change actually happened. I need to look it up (it was after 2006).

more coming soon...
