Mini-Review
The 2011 Humble Indie Bundle had some GREAT titles in it. I loved Braid, Machinarium, and VVVVVV, and found enjoyment in most of the others I played, including Crayon Physics Deluxe, Osmos, And Yet It Moves, Atom Zombie Smasher, and Revenge of the Titans. Cogs I didn't care for because of the genre, and Hammerfight was the first one that I didn't enjoy.
Cortex Command is another one I sat on, for good reason. I didn't play it until April 2024 (when this review was written) and was turned off at how fiddly the controls were. I abandoned it in the tutorial. Reading reviews it wasn't intended for a single player experience...in fact, in 2011, it wasn't even available on Steam yet because it was basically a beta product. Shortly after hitting Steam, all work was effectively abandoned. When you start up the main campaign, the game outright tells you that it is not in a perfect state and "lacking some polish, audio, and game balancing". Yet they're STILL SELLING IT FOR TWENTY BUCKS ON STEAM!!!
Hammerfight is at least freeware now and I feel bad because in comparison to Cortex Command (and many others) I was perhaps too hard on it.
